Baby Loss Christmas Poem

Whenever a baby dies, it’s always tragic. It does not matter if the parents lost their baby to miscarriage, stillbirth or post natal death – grief is grief, loss is loss.
I have found great comfort from a support group of bereaved parents in my community: my local group of The Compassionate Friends. This international charity actually supports parents of children who have died at any age for any reason, so many group members lost their children later in life. Nonetheless there are certainly many young parents like us, who have lost babies and we have found great support there.
So this is a bit of a plug, I suppose, for The Compassionate Friends! If you are in need of face-to-face support from others who have ‘been there’, please check them out in the resource pages of this website
I’ve just returned from our annual Christmas lunch, and one of the members shared this lovely poem. I’d never heard it before, so I asked her for a copy to share here on the website. Christmas can be such a difficult time for parents like us, so I hope you find comfort in its words. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas from Heaven
I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love
On cold wintry nights
I still share your hopes
And all of your cares
I’ll even remind you
To please say your prayers
I just want to tell you
You still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders
Above all the crowd
Keep trying each moment
To stay in His grace
I came here before you
To help set your place
You don’t have to be
Perfect all of the time
He forgives you the slip
If you continue the climb
To my family and friends
Please be thankful today
I’m still close beside you
In a new special way
I love you all dearly
Now don’t shed a tear
Because I’m spending Christmas
With Jesus this year
